ASIG Safety Audit Feedback Engine (SAFE)

In the last three years, ASIG has made significant improvements in its safety KPIs partly as a result of its internal observation programme, a method used by ASIG supervisors and managers across the business to reinforce policy, coach employees and minimise immediate risk factors.

During 2010 ASIG piloted a supplementary programme at several strategic locations to assist the company in identifying a method that would allow it to analyse deviations from policy and provide immediate feedback to employees on the ramp. Using the lessons learned from the pilot activity, ASIG merged the strengths of both programmes to create a single, user friendly tool called SAFE - Safety Audit Feedback Engine.

The new SAFE tool combines a set of standardised business specific audit forms with the on the spot coaching and feedback element of ASIG's original observation programme. SAFE forms are now used by supervisors and managers to ensure that on ramp standard safety procedures are adhered to and any deviations addressed as soon as possible. SAFE forms are then audited, enabling station managers to trend deviations by employee and by type, and implement prevention measures if required. By using one set of consolidated, standardised forms, overall paperwork has been reduced.

After further testing to prove its effectiveness, the ASIG SAFE programme went live in February 2011 across all ASIG locations in the US.

The SAFE program has been a very effective tool for monitoring procedures and providing direct feedback to front-line personnel. The audit forms provide for a good “all-around” evaluation of our processes. The tracking and trending tool is particularly helpful in identifying areas and individuals that are successful and those that need immediate focus in order to drive a total compliance culture’
