Environment

Managing the impact of our business on the environment through the efficient and safe use of resources and the management and reduction of waste is a key responsibility of our executive team and of the operational management teams at each of our facilities.

BBA Aviation operates an environmental reporting system used by all businesses. Each site is required to record its own use of resources such as electricity and water and report regularly, using the same global web-based reporting and audit tools employed to compile health and safety performance statistics.

Signature Energy Management

Signature implements new system to reduce energy use

This system enables us to track and support measures, including investment in new technologies, which will improve the efficient use of the resources our businesses consume. We have business, company and divisional-based performance targets for environmental measures. Progress towards achieving those targets is reviewed in the quarterly operating review meetings held by senior management with each business. We also engage external consultants to conduct routine reviews and validation of our environmental metrics and methodologies.

Using site audits our personnel develop site specific improvement plans which are reviewed annually and, where appropriate, audited through our HSE audit programme. Through this, we look for evidence of wider trends and best practices in regions or businesses which can be developed further and applied across the Group.

BBA Aviation's Group Environmental Manager oversees all of BBA Aviation's Group environment activities and is tasked with raising the profile of environmental activities with all employees. Over the last year we have put in place a number of Group initiatives and best practice procedures; these include standardised written regulatory plans and spill response procedures for all businesses and global idling policies at Signature and ASIG.
